Resurrection OKC Men’s Group Secures $10,000 Grant for Sisu Youth Services
Members of the Resurrection OKC Men’s Group played a pivotal role in securing a $10,000 grant for Sisu Youth Services, thanks to a partnership with Parkhill Architecture. Sisu provides a low-barrier, identity-affirming space in Oklahoma City where unhoused, transition-age youth can access a shelter and get support they need to build a future for themselves.
Fr. Sean Ekberg, Rector of Resurrection OKC, encouraged the Men’s Group to engage in new outreach efforts. The group reached out to Sisu with an offer to host a meal for the youth they serve. This simple act of kindness sparked a chain reaction: Gary Clark shared the initiative with his colleagues at Parkhill, and the company responded by donating a generous $10,000 to Sisu Youth Services.
Gary Clark, a member of the Resurrection Men’s Group and an employee at Parkhill Architecture, explained, “Each year, our company looks for opportunities to support a nonprofit organization in the community. The work Sisu does is just incredible. To be a teenager and not have anywhere to go is so hard. I believe God was definitely at work in this, and there is a plan at work.” He added, “We were just so happy to help out and give back.”
Roger Webb, leader of the Men’s Group, reflected on the significance of this outreach effort: “The outreach our church performs—and the Men’s Group as a subset of the church—matters because it gives us an active way to express our faith. It encourages all of us in the church, as we see the impact we are doing through the groups we are supporting.”
Roger continued, “It is usually awkward to reach out of your comfort zone. But if you listen to God’s still small voice (aka the Holy Spirit), and be willing to just do a small thing to help others, God will use that to bless more than we can comprehend.”
