Canterbury Students Help Couple Get to Football Games

Oklahoma State Canterbury Students recently helped a couple get to several OSU football games this season. Charles and Carol Foreman, members of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Stillwater, have been long-time OSU football season ticket holders and supporters of the Canterbury Center. Health issues have resulted in Charles requiring a wheelchair to get around and it was getting to be too much of a physical strain for Carol to push him into and out of the stadium.

Canterbury students volunteered their time to assist the Foreman’s in getting to and from several football games this season. Kahner Enderby, a Canterbury student who volunteered to help, shared why she felt called to do so, “ For me, helping out in anyway and knowing that I made someone’s day better or easier feeds me spiritually. Giving back to the community, especially part of a church that has always supported me during my time in Stillwater is very important to me. It’s important to lend a helping hand when needed so that everyone in the community feels cared for and needed. Especially with elders in a community, it can be hard for younger generations to connect with them and help them in small and big ways. I want to try to bridge that gap.”

The Rev. Jeff Huston, OSU Canterbury Chaplain shared why it was important for Canterbury to help, “This provided us not only with a chance to show our gratitude for the Foreman's support of our ministry but also the opportunity to bridge a generational gap and serve our neighbors. Any chance we get to reflect the countless blessings we have received in Jesus Christ is an opportunity we don't want to miss. God is present with us in all times and places and even simple acts of kindness give us the opportunity to remind ourselves that there is no set way to be a blessing to others. We are all on the same journey and any chance to share one another's burdens is how we can imagine God's Kingdom in our midst, even if it's just for a football game!”

We have two vibrant campus ministry programs in the Diocese. One is at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, the St. Augustine of Canterbury Center, led by Chaplain Fr. Jeff Huston. The other is at the University of Oklahoma in Norman, the St. Anselm Canterbury Center, led by Chaplain Fr. Blake Woods.
