Advent Dwelling in the Word Passage

Friends, as we approach the first Sunday in Advent, we invite you to intentionally practice Dwelling in the Word. Dwelling in the Word is an ancient practice that helps us to increase our listening to God as we approach our communities and neighborhoods from a posture of curiosity.

This year’s Advent passage is from Philippians 4:4-7.

Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. Let your gentleness be known to everyone. The Lord is near. Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

How to Dwell in the Word

Dwelling in the Word is a simple and ancient practice. Groups, small or large, gather to hear God’s word. Then, they pair up with a partner and share what caught their attention and any questions or thoughts they have about the passage. Afterward, they rejoin the group and share what they heard their partner say.
