 Today we are joined by The Rev.Tim Sean Youmans, he serves as the Vicar of St. Edward the Confessor Chapel and Chair of the Religion Department at Casady School. He also serves the Cathedral as Canon for Youth and Families. Fr Tim Sean recently wrote a new book Blessed to bless, an introduction to the Bible which seeks to train your bible muscle and teach you how to read the Bible in many different ways. In this podcast Fr. Tim Sean shares his love of the Bible, why he wrote this book and how it can serve youth and adults.

Ep 42: Grace Church Yukon

 Today we are joined by the dynamic priest duo Fr. Tim and Mtr. Kirsten Baer! Tim and Kirsten helped start a Diocesan church plant in Yukon, Oklahoma called Grace Church. They recently broke ground on their new building on 6th and Mustang Road in Yukon last week with the Bishop. In this episode, we chat about their background and dreams as church planters coming alive in the great success story of Grace Yukon. They share about the vision for the church, how they do evangelism and what it looks like to make the Episcopal Church accessible to folks who aren’t familiar with liturgical traditions.

Ep 41: Sabrina Evans, Director of Christian Formation

 This week’s episode features Sabrina Evans, our beloved Diocesan Director of Christian Formation. Sabrina retires this week after serving the Diocese for the last decade. Most notably, Sabrina has played an integral role in the development of small church christian formation and helped organize the 2017 Episcopal Youth Event in Oklahoma City. In this episode, Sabrina and I chat about her favorite moments working in the Diocese , her passion for children’s ministry and plans for retirement. We thank Sabrina for her commitment and ministry to the Diocese, we will miss her greatly.

Ep 40: Greenwood Theatrical & Fire in Beulah

 This week’s episode features special guest and St. Crispin’s Camp alumni Patrice Armour and Marta Reiman, creators and directors of Tulsa’s newest theatre, Greenwood Theatrical. Patrice and Marta are Tulsa natives that became friends as youngsters at St. Crispins’ camp and dance class and eventually shared an apartment as adults in New York. Patrice attend St. Gregory’s University in Shawnee, Oklahoma on a dance scholarship and moved to NY several years after graduation to follow her sister. She’s held numerous roles in non-profit organizations including Cable Positive and Wendy Hillard Gymnastic Foundation. She’s also worked for the New York Times in advertising and currently works as the Gymnastics program director of Aim High Academy at North Tulsa. Marta is an actress, dancer, playwright and producer originally from Tulsa, Oklahoma but has been based in New York since 2003. She graduated from Interlochen Arts Academy and The Hartt School of Performing Arts at the University of Hartford. Marta’s New York and regional theatre career has consisted of acting in new works and playing infamous women; such as Marilyn Monroe, Mae West, Zelda Fitzgerald and Maggie in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, among others. Marta and Patrice created the Greenwood Theatrical theatre company to be dedicated to racial equity, healing, and education through theatre, community programming, and dialogue. Their first play production, written by Marta, is an adaptation of Oklahoma novelist, Rilla Askew called the Fire in Beulah. The play tells the story of women’s lives during the Tulsa Race Massacre and will be shown on May 21st via an online viewing to commemorate the Centennial Memorial of the Massacre. It was a joy and a privilege to speak to these two inspiring women. I’m honored to share their ministry of racial healing through the arts. Ep 35: Hispanic Heritage Month with Julia Ayala Harris and Mtr. Mary Ann Hill

 This week is a special feature episode for Hispanic Heritage Month. In the US, Hispanic Heritage month is celebrated from September 15th to October 15th. Sarah sits down with two leaders in the Diocese that are doing great work in the area of Hispanic ministry. Julia Ayala Harris is a Hispanic woman lay leader at St. John’s in Norman. She is a member of Executive Council for the Episcopal Church. And Mother Mary Ann Hill is the president of the Standing Committee for the Diocese, rector of St. Dunstan’s in Tulsa and built a Hispanic community at St. Dunstan’s that eventually grew into the new Hispanic Mission in Tulsa called Espiritu Santo led by Fr. Alberto Moreno. We had a really incredible and eye opening conversation about why Hispanic ministry is important and how the Episcopal Church can foster spaces of belonging to actualize the Kingdom of God in our communities.

Ep 34: Oakerhater Sunday Forum with Cheyenne Peace Chief Harvey Pratt

 This week features a forum discussion with Cheyenne Peace Chief Harvey Pratt from St. Paul’s Cathedral OKC’s celebration of the Feast Day of Oakerhater. David Pendleton Oakerhater was a Cheyenne Indian warrior that later became an Episcopal Deacon that served in Western Oklahoma. Every year St. Paul’s celebrates his feast day on the first or second Sunday of September. This year, Native American parishioners from the Cathedral, Buzz McDonald and Blue Clark held a short discussion forum with Peace Chief Harvey Pratt to learn about his life and legacy of his artwork in Oklahoma and US. Pratt is a prolific artist, US military veteran and Cheyenne Peace Chief.

Ep 19: Wayne Muller

 Wayne was our guest speaker at this year’s clergy conference. Wayne Muller is an executive leadership mentor, therapist, minister, community advocate, consultant, public speaker, and bestselling author of several books including “A Life of Being, Doing, and Having Enough” and “Sabbath: Finding Rest, Renewal and Delight in our Busy Lives”. A graduate of Harvard Divinity School, he has spent the last thirty-five years working with people suffering abuse, alcoholism, poverty, illness and loss. He also recently started an experiential community movement called Nones and Nuns where Millennials and Catholic nuns create communities together and learn from one another to create lives of meaning, spirituality, solidarity and social action. Wayne and Sarah chat about some of the themes he addressed in his talk at the clergy conference including how human relationship gets sacrificed on the altar of the capitalistic values of efficiency and productivity.

Ep 16: Oakerhater Honor Events with Dr. Blue Clark & Buzz McDonald

 This episode features two Native American Episcopalians from Oklahoma. Dr. Blue Clark is a professor of law and a historian of Native American law in the United States and a member of the Creek tribe. And Mr. Buzz McDonald is a member of the Caddo tribe and his sister is the Rev. Dr. Canon Carol Hampton long time priest of St. Paul’s Cathedral. Both men are very active in the Episcopal Church’s relationship with the Native American tribes in Oklahoma and are members of St. Paul’s Cathedral in downtown OKC. Both men bring a wealth of knowledge and history of their native roots and experience in the church. We chat about the two upcoming events the Diocese puts on annually to celebrate the ministry of David Pendleton Oakerhater, the first Native American deacon in the Episcopal Church and to celebrate the church’s relationship with the Native peoples in Oklahoma. The famous artist Harvey Pratt will kick off the events by preaching at the Cathedral on September 1st at both services with a forum question and answer session between the services. And on September 14th there will be the 33rd annual Oakerhater honor dance in Watonga at the Whirlwind Mission.

 I had the pleasure of sitting down with members of the Bishop’s Search Committee, Fr. Tim Baer and the Deacon Dana Orwig.
